The People's Power movement, which is part of the parliamentary majority, will initiate a draft law in January that will affect the activities of foreign-funded non-governmental organizations in Georgia.

As MPs of People's Power announced at the briefing held in the Parliament, the draft law will be essentially based on the American legislation, and it will also reflect the best practices of several other democratic countries in the mentioned field.

According to the representatives of People's Power, the proposed law will create a register of agents of foreign influence, in which registration will be mandatory for all relevant NGOs and other entities that are financed from foreign sources and aim to influence public decisions or public opinion formation in Georgia.

According to them, the concept of "agent of foreign influence" will be introduced and the relevant subjects will be obliged to fully declare their financial income and expenses. In addition, the direct involvement of the state in a number of processes that envisage the privileging of individuals or legal entities with foreign funding will be ensured.

"The draft law prepared by us will make a significant contribution to ensuring the national security of Georgia from various points of view," said Guram Macharashvili, MP of People's Power.
