Anri Okhanashvili: The rights of prisoners are protected in our country

10.05.24 12:17

The rights of prisoners are protected in our country, 22,000 prisoners surrendered to the past, when prisons were overcrowded and when systematic torture of prisoners took place, - this is how the chairman of the parliamentary committee on legal issues Anri Okhanashvili answered the question of Iago Khvichia, a member of "Girchi", whether amnesty for prisoners is planned.

As Anri Okhanashvili explained, this is an issue that needs complex preparation. According to him, decisions are still being issued in Strasbourg that torture was systematic during the "National Movement" regime, and this fact has been eliminated.

"This has been consigned to history and the past. The "Penitential Code" that we have adopted will ensure as much as possible the protection of the rights of prisoners and further improvement.

At this stage, nothing has been initiated regarding this matter, you know. This is a complex issue that needs serious preparation, serious processing and consideration. This will be my answer to this issue," Anri Okhanashvili addressed Iago Khvichia.
