The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) conducted searches at different locations in Georgia’s cities, including Tbilisi, within the framework of the investigation into cyber attacks on websites of government institutions.

The MIA searched the apartment of Ucha Abashidze, a blogger and active participant of the anti-Transparency Law rallies at #22 Irakli Abashidze Street in Tbilisi.

Ucha Abashidze (born in 1984) was detained on the charge of illegal possession and keeping of weapons (Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia).

Law enforcers confiscated a weapon and various electronic devices from his flat. He was taken to the Criminal Police Department in the Ortachala district of Tbilisi.

The Ministry said the investigation is launched under Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Georgia envisaging inflicting damage to computer data and system of an agency keeping vitally significant information.

Investigative activities continue in Georgia’s other cities.
