Shalva Khachapuridze: The main puzzle is how to make the court proceedings take place on a daily basis - the other side is trying to artificially prolong it

According to Shalva Khachapuridze, the lawyer of the third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, the position of the Penitentiary Service is not aimed at establishing how accurate Saakashvili's diagnosis is, but rather they "look for a flaw" in the expert opinion to say this is a simulation.

As Khachapuridze told journalists after the court proceedings on the postponement of Mikheil Saakashvili's sentence, now the main issue is that the proceedings in the mentioned case be conducted daily.

"Mr. Goldsmith, an American expert, appeared in court and confirmed the diagnosis given in the report - unspecified dementia. The other side's position was not aimed at establishing how accurate Saakashvili's diagnosis is, but rather they "look for a flaw" in the expert opinion to say this is a simulation. The main puzzle is how to make these processes take place on a daily basis and save human live. We said that certain witnesses could be removed, but the other side came and included everyone, the guards, almost the cleaners, others. They are doing this to artificially prolong the process," said Shalva Khachapuridze.

Khachapuridze also answered the question about Saakashvili's health condition.

"Have we come to the state as a nation that instead of justice, we look for vendetta? There is no need to be a lawyer or a doctor - we saw the footage of the arrest on October 1, and we also saw his condition today - does it seem like there is any healing or recovery? Is his health satisfactory?" said Shalva Khachapuridze.
