Shalva Papuashvili: Unfortunately, we got to the point we started - it turns out that neither the discussion nor the interview was of any use

Unfortunately, we got to the point we started. If the approach of the opposition was to lead Georgian Dream into a certain tunnel, where there is only one way out at the end, that is where the opposition led the process. It turns out that neither the discussion nor the interview was of any use, Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili stated at the session of the Bureau regarding the process of selecting candidates for the membership of the Supreme Council of Justice.

As Papuashvili stated, the mandate was given to the deputies by the citizens of Georgia, not by the non-governmental organizations, which nominated the candidates for the membership of the Supreme Council of Justice, and on which reconciliation between the opposition and the ruling team could not take place.

"All of us should realize that we are members of the Parliament of Georgia, we have a mandate given to us by the citizens of Georgia. The position of a certain part of the opposition has been focused from beginning to end on the fact that several NGOs named several candidates, and we cannot change our position beyond that. I think this shows how seriously we take the mandate given to you by the people. We have been talking about this all this time. Everyone should think about the responsibility given to him/her by his/her constituents, not a few NGOs gathered in some room when they nominated their candidates. A part of the opposition could not change its position and did not even dare to think about any other candidate except the one nominated by NGOs. This is the reality. The name and surnames you said you agreed with, they were all named by a few NGOs behind closed doors, in a closed process, corporately. It is an unfortunate development when several NGOs try to impose their decision on the Parliament, nominate candidates and then put it under pressure (especially the opposition and small parties) so that they don't think about other candidates. This is the reality.

Unfortunately, we got to where we started. From the beginning, we said that if the approach of the opposition was to lead Georgian Dream into a certain tunnel, where there is only one way out at the end, that is where the opposition led the process. It turned out that neither the discussion nor the interview was of any use. I can tell you how many members of the opposition attended the interview of the candidates for the membership of the Supreme Council of Justice...," said Papuashvili.
