Judge Giorgi Arevadze did not allow Mikheil Saakashvili to make a statement in Ukrainian.

The judge addressed the former president and urged him to speak in Georgian. According to him, Saakashvili "knows Georgian, and very well."

"Mr. Mikheil, you are a citizen of Ukraine, but you speak Georgian, the proceedings are conducted in Georgian, therefore, you should address us in Georgian. I don't know the Ukrainian language," Arevadze told Saakashvili.

Because of this, by the decision of the judge, Saakashvili was temporarily suspended from the trial, which caused noise in the session hall. The process was stopped for a few minutes.

Finally, it was decided that Mikheil Saakashvili's statement would be translated from Ukrainian by the representative of the Ukrainian consulate in the hall.
