Saying that there is an anti-Western campaign in Georgia is disinformation against our country. The aim of this hybrid war is to shake the Government. They themselves create false perceptions and fight against them, the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, said in response to the Chairwoman of Transparency International – Georgia, Eka Gigauri, who said that the expectations that we will achieve something in terms of integration with the West is very low.
He also evaluated the non-governmental organization's report on Georgia's economic dependence on Russia. According to him, nothing has changed in terms of the number of tourists entering the country, and the comparison with 2020-2021 years is irrelevant, as there were restrictions caused by the pandemic in the mentioned period.
"Georgia may be the least dependent country compared to other countries, in terms of energy, we have the least dependence on the Russian market among the EU countries. We have the least ties with Russia, we do not even diplomatic relations with them.
Nothing has changed either in terms of the number of arrivals or in relation to visas. It is irrelevant to make comparison with 2020-2021 years. There was a pandemic in 2020-2021 and the movement was completely different in the world, so there is nothing special. This campaign has turned into xenophobia, and I am surprised that, along with political parties, non-governmental organizations are involved in this. According to the studies, young people with good incomes come to Georgia from Russia. They represent the middle class, who arrived from Russia because they see stability in our country", said Shalva Papuashvili.
