US allocates $35 mln to Georgia to beef up its defenses against Russia

The United States will provide $35 million to Georgia to beef up its defenses against future threats stemming from Russia, the Voice of America reports.

 

The assistance committed to Georgia includes combat equipment, counter-drone technologies, advanced field artillery tactical data system, mobility capabilities, and cyber defense. It continued: “This will be part of the next the US-allocated military contribution in response to Russia’s war in Ukraine.”

 

On 25 April, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced during a visit to Kyiv that Washington will allocate $713 million in military aid for Ukraine and 15 other European countries. This very assistance helps NATO Allies backfill capabilities they have donated to Ukraine from their stockpiles to retain and strengthen NATO deterrence.

 

More than $322 million of these funds are slated for Ukraine and will allow it to further defend itself from Russia’s ongoing war.
