Shalva Papuashvili and Javier Colomina discuss Russia's aggression in Ukraine and the importance of Georgia's membership in NATO

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili met with the Special Representative of the North Atlantic Alliance for the South Caucasus and Central Asia, Javier Jolomina. Successful cooperation between Georgia and NATO was discussed at the meeting.

 

"Shalva Papuashvili expressed gratitude to NATO for supporting Georgia's territorial integrity. Georgia's contribution to global security and the country's progress on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration were also underlined. The sides also discussed Russia's aggression in Ukraine and its dire consequences for the region. Given the new geopolitical reality, Shalva Papuashvili spoke about the special importance of Georgia's membership in NATO and expressed hope that Georgia's progress would be recognized at the NATO Madrid Summit.

 

The Alliance Special Representative stressed the strategic importance of the South Caucasus region for North Atlantic security and noted that Georgia is a valuable partner of NATO. According to him, NATO will continue to actively cooperate with Georgia and promote democratic reforms," ​​the statement said.
