Tengiz Tsertsvadze: We will have to learn to cohabit and coexist with this virus

Emergency measures, restrictions, and quarantine may be eased. This is inevitable since the country will not be able to survive in these conditions for a long time because people are already facing difficulties, Tengiz Tsertsvadze, General Director of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital, told reporters.

However, he said that once the restrictions are lifted, the risk of infection will increase.

"Most importantly, the country needs to get out of the economic recession, and that's just necessary. Under these conditions, of course, the risk of infection increases. Mass testing in these conditions will certainly be helpful. We will have to learn to cohabit and coexist with this virus. Do you know what this means? We have to put up with the fact that there will be separate and possibly dozens of cases of the coronavirus infection in our country, and this should not lead to tensions and the danger that thousands and tens of thousands of patients will be sick, as happened in European countries. In the future, when we will manage to stop the pandemic, then we can act with regard to this infection the same way we do with tuberculosis or even the flu during the flu season. For this, it is necessary to stop the epidemic, Tsertsvadze said.
