Implementation of the nine steps outlined by the European Commission for opening European Union accession talks with Georgia was discussed on Thursday in a meeting between the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Gert Jan Koopman, the Head of the Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission.

Papuashvili thanked Koopman for “successful and fruitful” cooperation in the process of the country receiving the EU membership candidate status last year, the Georgian Parliament said.

On his part, Koopman expressed his readiness for further cooperation with the Georgian Government.

The meeting also reviewed the “latest developments” in Georgia and the wider region.
