January 2020: monthly prices up 0.7 percent

In January 2020 monthly prices in Georgia increased by 0.7 percent, while the annual inflation rate amounted to 6.4 percent, show the latest inflation data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

 

Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages in Georgia increased by 2.3 percent compared to the previous month, contributing 0.76 percent of the overall monthly inflation.   

 

In particular monthly prices increased in the following subgroups:


Vegetables – 8.6 percent
Milk, cheese, and eggs - 6.1 percent
Oils and fats – 4.2 percent
Fruit and grapes- 3 percent
Coffee, tea, and cocoa - 0.6 percent
Meat - 0.4 percent
Along with this, prices decreased for mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices by 1.2 percent.

An increase in monthly prices mostly occurred in the following groups:


Food and alcoholic beverages – 2.3 percent 
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco – 1.8 percent
Restaurants and hotels – 0.8 percent
A decrease in monthly prices mostly occurred in the following groups:
Recreation and culture – 4.5 percent
Clothing and footwear – 3.5 percent
Transport – 0.1 percent


Annual prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 11.3 percent compared to January last year contributing 3.57 percent of overall annual inflation.
