The expiration date of the gas reservoir in Georgia has been extended to 2024. The Georgian Gas Supply Company, founded by the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, said the bidding process was underway. After the winner is announced, the construction of the energy facility will begin.

“The bids are being evaluated. Many specifics were requested from us due to the complex nature of the pipeline project. Quite a lot of work has already been done. The tender is actually coming to an end. We expect to find a contracting company in the first quarter of this year. In the second quarter of 2020, the first phase of construction is planned to begin, with two wells being drilled. Geological and other information will be obtained based on which the project will be refined. We expect the completion of the first phase by the end of 2021. Then large-scale construction work will begin. We expect the facility to become operational by the beginning of 2024, "Imeda Kakhiani, General Director of the Georgian Gas Company, told the Georgian First Channel.

Construction of a gas storage facility near Tbilisi on the empty oil field of Samgori's south arch is planned and will be able to store up to 300 million cubic meters of gas. The project will be funded by the German Bank for Reconstruction Credit (KfW) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
