Both mountain resorts, Bakuriani and Gudauri, are supplied with 24-hour, uninterrupted water supply systems, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Ilia Begiashvili said.
As the Deputy Minister noted, preparations for the season started in Bakuriani and Gudauri and a special task force of various agencies analyzed all the problems that existed last year in resorts, including traffic jams, parking, water supply, road maintenance, solid waste management, plans were developed and implemented events to solve the problems.
Begiashvili said existing water supplies should have been sufficient for all subscribers operated by the United Water Supply Company, but this year's dry frosts have caused groundwater sources to freeze, causing some of the debits to be lost.
According to him, the number of subscribers in mountain resorts is constantly increasing and only last year United Water Supply Company in Bakuriani joined 800 new subscribers, out of which there are more than 200 commercial objects.
As the Deputy Minister stated, at the initiative of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, a different model of management of tourist-laden settlements was prepared, and the development of such a model was caused by problems related to the administration of resorts. If the proposed changes are shared, municipalities will be given the opportunity, by councils' decision, to create a public legal entity responsible for delivering municipal services.
According to Ilia Begiashvili, effective public governance, smooth delivery of services to the population and stakeholders is particularly important in municipalities where conditions for rapid economic development, tourism and investment volume are increasing.
