Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia, Gogita Todradze presented the report of GeoStat's activity for 2019 today.

As he pointed out, in 2019 Geostat took significant steps to implement methodological changes.

In addition, he said, last year the National Bureau of Statistics presented the results of a large-scale survey to the public on the quality of drinking water and lead content in children.

Gogita Todradze noted in the report that in 2019 it was also important for international experts to evaluate the methodology and recommendations of the Geostat, which will be taken into account in the 2020 Action Plan.

However, he said, data published by Geostat is often a tool of political manipulation.

He said that in the coming years, Geostat's activities would be based on three priority areas.

According to the head of the Geostat, the agency's next four-year development strategy is already in place and will focus on public information.

However, as he noted, in 2020 the budget of the Geostat has increased by 5.8 percent compared to the previous year and the mentioned resource is used for the implementation of new methodologies.

Gogita Todradze also spoke at a briefing on the areas that had a positive and negative impact on economic growth in Georgia in 2019. He said that the growth of the economy had a positive effect on trade, transport, hotels, and restaurants, as well as construction in the second half of the year, while mining and construction had a negative impact on growth in the first half of last year.
