The impeachment procedure is not expected, Salome Zurabishvili, as a person, is not considered an opposing force, said the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Gia Volski, thus answering the question of whether it is possible to start impeachment procedure due to the differences with the President.
Volski believes that such a decision may turn out to be a mechanism for certain political parties to "shake the country".
"We see this as the institution of the president, and the institution of the president should be valued accordingly. It would be much harder for the country to transfer these differences of opinion into the channel when speculative political subjects take advantage of the situation and are given additional resources and leverage to shake the country. We believe in the main formula - the truth is born in the dispute, and we will try to use this formula," said Volski.
The political council of the Georgian Dream party issued a statement earlier today, according to which, "there are clear signs that the President of Georgia is purposefully obstructing the regular activities of the National Bank with its actions."
As mentioned in the statement, “consultations between the ruling team and the President have already taken place, after which the President of Georgia confirmed her readiness to present the candidacy of Lasha Khutsishvili as one of the members of the board of the National Bank. During the consultations, specific dates were announced - February, March 8, etc. However, she violated all the agreed deadlines and she has not presented a candidate for membership of the board of the National Bank to the Parliament until now."
“The ruling team will not allow an institutional crisis in any state institution and will take care of the proper functioning of each constitutional body. This is the responsibility of the ruling team to our state and Georgian voters," reads the statement.
