Although Georgia has been the target of unfair and unjustified accusations for a year, we have never hesitated in our support for Ukraine in word or deed, said Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of Georgia’s Parliament.
According to him, the parliaments and MPs of Georgia and Ukraine have good connections, which have been demonstrated many times.
Shalva Papuashvili believes that many people ‘parasitize’ the Ukrainian situation and travel to Kyiv specifically for this purpose.
“Many people, including some in Georgian politics, are parasitizing on the Ukraine war issue. Using this war for political gain is parasitism. When you announce a rally here and then go to another country, Ukraine, to Kyiv to show off and then from there to have live engagements and directly parasitize about the Ukrainian war, that’s parasitism,” said Papuashvili.
According to the Speaker, no country would show the same solidarity towards Ukraine that Georgia did in the same circumstances.
“Unlike all other countries in the pro-Ukraine alliance, we are the only country along with Moldova, not protected by NATO’s umbrella and the European Union’s economic solidarity; we are the only country that underwent three wars with Russia. We are the only country where the Russian army is still deployed. In these circumstances, Georgia’s support to Ukraine, whether political or otherwise, is the kind of solidarity that others would not display,” Papuashvili explained.
Shalva Papuashvili says Georgia base all its decisions on the country’s interests.
