Zurab Abashidze, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Georgia for Relations with Russia, confirms the authenticity of the recording of the telephone conversation with Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee of Russia, and states that he listened to the recording twice and cannot understood what is scandalous about it.
According to him, when a force majeure situation arises on the border in terms of transport, they always communicate with each other and this is a normal phenomenon.
"It was June 21, maybe June 20, last year. Back then, the situation was difficult in the Kazbegi-Larsi direction, thousands of vehicles were on both sides. A difficult situation arose and we tried our best to settle this situation. In this regard, I had connection with Karasin in the so-called Prague format. This format exists precisely so that such issues can be resolved through direct contact. We had a telephone connection. We involved local services, border guards, customs officers to regulate this situation. Our neighboring countries were worried, including a representative from Armenia. This is what we were talking about.
I listened to this recording twice, this conversation is authentic and I still do not understand what is scandalous. I am talking about the fact that construction is going on from our side, a parallel large infrastructural project is being implemented and it is expected to be finished in about a year and a half, in 24, and this will help to ease the situation.
They will somehow try to make it look like a big scandal, but if you listen to it calmly and look at what I'm talking about, these are the conversations we had back then. When there is a force majeure situation on the border from the point of view of transport, then we always contact each other and this is a normal event", Zurab Abashidze said on Public Broadcaster.
The recording of a conversation between Abashidze and Karasin was spread via YouTube, Cyber Kmara channel. According to the record, Abashidze and Karasin are talking about the construction of a new highway. Abashidze explains to Karasin that a parallel highway is being built in the direction of Zemo Larsi.
