US allocates USD 132,025,000 for assistance for Georgia in 2023

The US will allocate not less than $132,025,000 for assistance for Georgia based on the 2023 draft budget.

 

A separate chapter in the draft concerns Georgia’s two occupied territories of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region, reading that “none of the funds appropriated by this Act may be made available for assistance for the central government of a country that the Secretary of State determines and reports to the Committees on Appropriations has recognized the independence of, or has established diplomatic relations with, the Russian Federation occupied Georgian territories of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region/ South Ossetia.”

 

The document provides that the Secretary shall publish on the Department of State website a list of any such central governments on time.

 

The draft budget also provides that the Secretary may waive the restriction on assistance required by the paragraph on Georgia’s occupied territories, if the Secretary determines and reports to the Committees on Appropriations that to do so is in the national interest of the United States and includes a justification for such interest.

 

Furthermore, none of the funds appropriated by the Appropriations Act may be made available to support the Russian Federation’s occupation of the Georgian territories of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region/ South Ossetia.
