Non-governmental organizations nominated three candidates for the position of Public Defender. The representatives of the organization announced this at the briefing held today.

According to the head of the Safari organization, Baia Pataraia, the named candidates of the third sector are: acting deputy Public Defender, Giorgi Burjanadze, representative of the Partnership for Human Rights organization, Ana Abashidze, and founder of Court Watch and former non-judge member of the Supreme Council of Justice, Nazi Janezashvili.

As Baia Pataraaa stated, it was necessary to take into account a number of criteria to select the candidates.

"It was important that this person had 5 years of experience in human rights activities. He/she should not be a party member, nor should he/she have held any political office or been a member of any party for the past 5 years. We conducted various procedures, including voting, and 3 candidates were selected. These are people well known to the public and well-known people in the field of protection of human rights. They are Ana Abashidze, Giorgi Burjanadze and Nazi Janezashvili," said Pataraia.
