We can not be an exception amid the processes that are ongoing in the world - we will develop a specific mechanism to support the growth of wheat production in the country, said Minister of Environment and Agriculture Otar Shamugia.

As Shamugia explained, Georgia can not be disconnected from the current processes on the world market with regard to imported products.

"As for the products on which we depend on imports (we import most of the wheat and flour), of course, we can not be disconnected from world markets.

Our goal is to maximize the growth of grain, wheat and other products in the country in order to increase production in the country. According to preliminary data, compared to 2020, wheat production has increased significantly, by about 35%, which is important, but we have more opportunities, for which we will develop a specific mechanism to increase wheat production in the country and achieve a rate of at least about 50% self-sufficiency," said Otar Shamugia.
