Shalva Papuashvili: Georgia went through 3 wars that involved Russia, so we are particularly sensitive to the claims about side talks with Russia - I think all issues with Ukraine are cleared up

According to the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, the Georgian parliamentary delegation headed by him had a warm and friendly visit to Ukraine.

As Papuashvili told reporters, during the meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, they talked about bilateral relations and dissemination of correct information.

"It was a warm, friendly visit and reception. Our host tried to show special warmth and attention to the Georgian delegation, the multi-party composition was important for him in the sense that the solidarity of our country as a whole was shown by this parliamentary delegation. In general, of course, this visit gave us the opportunity to clarify many issues. I had a separate meeting with the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, we also had a joint meeting. I think all issues are cleared up.

The main thing is that today, in a crisis situation, the information space is particularly vulnerable to disinformation, and therefore, it is important that any information that may be voiced in the media or by different organizations be verified with each other. I think we agreed on that too.

As for our position, I also mentioned that Georgia is a country that in the 90s, in 2008, went through 3 wars that involved Russia. Consequently, we are, of course, particularly sensitive to claims which may hint that Georgia may have separate, side talks with Russia. I think it is clear to our friends in Ukraine that Georgia is a special country in this regard. A country 20% of which is occupied by Russia. Consequently, we have a special sensitivity when such types of complaints can be made, especially since there is no reason to say so. Unfortunately, it seemed that some information was delivered in a distorted way in Ukraine as well. In this regard, I think the Government should also play its role through proactive communication so that the Ukrainian society has full information on how Georgia stands by it," Papuashvili said.

He said that there was no talk about recalling the Ambassador during his visit to Ukraine.

"The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia had communication with his Ukrainian counterpart. Therefore, this is an issue to be clarified between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, we have not touched on this issue. The issues that were voiced in the media are the ones on which I also had provided information to my colleague in its time. For example, in connection with the flights, as if a military plane used Georgian airspace. I provided information in this regard before leaving and this issue is over," Papuashvili said.
