Parliament official says Euronest resolution on EU integration of Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine failed due to “rejection by opposition

Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Wednesday said a resolution on the European integration of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova at the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly had failed due to its “rejection” by the Georgian opposition and the Ukrainian delegation.

 

In her remarks over the resolution discussed at the body formed as part of the European Union's Eastern Partnership programme, Botchorishvili alleged its opponents had “acted to the detriment of the country's interests”.

 

“Within the framework of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, the [ruling] Georgian Dream [party] had the initiative to table a resolution regarding the European perspective of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, which would once again support the accession of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union”, Botchorishvili said.

 

Botchorishvili said the Moldovan delegation had supported the resolution, but it became “impossible to continue working” on the document after members of the Ukrainian delegation and the Georgian opposition “refused to sign” the text.
