Arguing in the name of Europe and freedom is forbidden - it is a direct realization of "Orwellian" approaches in our modern times, when ignorance is strength and when obedience is considered freedom, - Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili said at a meeting with regional media in Adjara.
According to him, when European values are discussed, Georgia is also mentioned.
"What we are reporting is the last period, there is an attempt to ban the discussion. Is it a paradox? They forbid reasoning in the name of freedom. They chant freedom and say, don't read the law. Among them, our asset put up posters in the city, indicating a website where people could read the law. These posters were taken down. What is this called, if not the prohibition of thinking, reasoning, discussion?! There is a direct realization of Orwellian approaches in our modern times, when ignorance is power and when obedience is considered freedom. They forbid discussion in the name of Europe and freedom. Instead of saying what the argument is against this law [on "transparency"], the placards just say - "against European values". I apologize, but what values do we live by in Georgia? We are also Europe and [live] with European values. No country has patented European values in relation to us. Therefore, when we talk about European values, it is not a conversation of a European with a non-European, but it is a conversation of a European country with a European country. Therefore, when we talk about European values, we also have our say, from our history and from the side of co-creation of European values", said Shalva Papuashvili.
