Number of visitors to the protected areas of Georgia exceeds 1 million

In 10 months of 2023, the number of visitors to the protected areas of Georgia exceeded the same period last year by 19%. Protected areas of Georgia hosted 1,015,024 visitors.

 

According to the Agency of Protected Areas disseminated, compared to last year, the number of foreign visitors has increased by 29%. 58% (589,841 visitors) of visitors to protected areas in 2023 were citizens of other countries.

 

"In 2023, the most visitors visited: Martvili Canyon, Prometheus Cave, Mtirala National Park, Sataflia and Tsalka Canyon.

 

It should be noted that a record number of visitors to the protected areas of Georgia was recorded in 2019. In 10 months of the current year, 2019 data has been restored by 90%.

 

The Agency of Protected Areas actively continues the development of ecotourism in the country. This year, up to 22.5 million GEL will be invested in various protected areas for the development of ecotourism. In 15 protected areas, the rehabilitation and arrangement works of up to 1,200 km long hiking trails and accompanying tourist-recreational infrastructure are being carried out in order to make travel to the protected areas more comfortable and safe", - reads the press release.
