The main topic of discussion during the visit of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to Georgia was domestic issues and regional challenges, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly reported.

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Kari Henriksen, and the Secretary General, Roberto Montella, met on September 18-19 with members of the Georgian government, political party leaders and representatives of the international community.

"I decided to make my first visit to Georgia with new opportunities, as the country was an example of active political reforms in the South Caucasus to strengthen democratic principles and the rule of law. "The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has been monitoring developments in Georgia for more than 20 years and recognizes its continued involvement in the efforts to build a stable and sustainable democratic system," said Kari Henriksen.

The Special Representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for the South Caucasus stressed the importance of political stability, dialogue and compromise, which are also vital to resolving conflicts.

According to the website of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, a number of meetings with representatives of European Georgia, the United National Movement and the Georgian Dream raised issues such as the pre-election environment, campaigning and polarized dialogue in the public sphere.

"As for the local elections, many interlocutors noted that despite the strict rhetoric around the campaign, the general atmosphere is still calm. I sincerely call on all stakeholders to be constructively involved in the post-election period, not only at the local but also at the national level. "The main thing is that all interested political parties should refrain from incitement or any kind of political violence," Henriksnema said.

The OSCE delegation fully supported the work of the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. According to the OSCE, Kari Henriksen also plans to visit Armenia and Azerbaijan.
