Democracy Index 2020: Georgia ranks 91st of 165 countries

04.02.21 15:30

Georgia has ranked 91st of 165 countries and two territories in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index 2020.

Last year Georgia was 89th.

The report says that almost 70 per cent  of countries covered by the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index recorded a decline in their overall score due to the pandemic.

The Democracy Index is based on five categories: electoral process and pluralism, the functioning of government, political participation, political culture, and civil liberties.

Based on its scores on a range of indicators within these categories, each country is then itself classified as one of four types of regime: full democracy, flawed democracy, hybrid regime or authoritarian regime.

With the score of 5.31 Georgia remains in the group of hybrid regime.
