The current political dialogue with the facilitator ambassadors is at an important stage and we hope that the political parties that were supported to enter the parliament will properly assess this opportunity, - Archil Talakvadze, the Speaker of the Parliament, told InterPressNews while commenting on the ongoing talks between the government and the opposition.
According to the Speaker, although everyone is close to the agreement, "the last stage requires more willpower and the right decisions from the opposition in an environment free of destructive elements".
"We, the whole nation, must unite around the goal that our country needs most now: to defeat the virus and to rebuild the economy. Politics should serve this purpose, as should the parties and the new parliament. The function of politicians is to stabilize, manage the situation, maintain peace and solve problems, not to disturb the situation and support radical scenarios. Georgia today, as never before, is future-oriented and any blocking, artificial attempts of interrupting the work of institutions and using the political process only for subjective purposes - is against the future. Despite the pandemic, up to two million of our fellow citizens took part in the elections and we have no right to question their choice! The ongoing political dialogue with the facilitator ambassadors is at an important stage and we hope that the political parties that were supported to entering Parliament will properly assess this opportunity. We are all close to an agreement, but the last stage requires more willpower and the right decisions from the opposition in an environment free of destructive elements. This parliamentary election has created a chance for cooperation between the parties, for argumentative opposition, not insults, to make a result-oriented policy, and this chance should not be lost", - Archil Talakvadze told InterPressNews.
