Amiran Gamkrelidze: So-called strict lockdown won't be introduced, but there will be local, targeted responses

57 cases are already a serious increase. Whether we call it the second wave, or the continuation of the first one, does not matter much at this stage, - said the director of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze at a briefing at the government administration.

Gamkrelidze noted that stricter restrictions such as those in the spring across the country could not be implemented, though local restrictions may be applied if needed.

"When the autumn is coming other respiratory viruses may spread - the flu virus traditionally appears in the country at the end of October, more often from mid-November and there is two month before that, but still, this dynamic growth is quite noticeable. The fact is that we have an internal circulation of infection in the country and we must do everything we can to prevent it. The principles of prevention, which were implemented in the spring, the so-called strict lockdown and locking cannot and will not be introduced across the country, but local, targeted responses can be, depending on if we had such clusters. In order not reach this point, we need to follow the recommendations", -stated Gamkrelidze.
