Public Defender releases statement

The Public Defender's Office of Georgia has released a statement, saying that the Public Defender and representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office observed the events taking place on Rustaveli Avenue throughout the night and have visited detained demonstrators in various police divisions. The Ombudsman says in the statement that some detained citizens speak about the facts of alleged abuse of power by law enforcers.

 

"Representatives of the Public Defender are actively studying each incident occurred during the demonstration. They also work to find out the location of detained and missing persons. In addition, they will observe trials and visit the hospitalized persons.

 

The Public Defender will make legal assessment regarding the developments on Rustaveli Avenue later.
