As of 2019, Georgia's airports served a total of 5,200,419 passengers, up 3% year-on-year (2018 - 5,033,118 passengers). This information was released by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia "Airports Association".
According to them, in December the highest rate of growth of passenger traffic was observed at all international and local airports except Tbilisi. “Tbilisi International Airport served 221,760 passengers in December, which is -15% less than the same period last year (2018 - 261,097 passengers). In the 12-month period, a decrease of -3% compared to the same period last year was 3,692,202 (2018 - 3,808,650 passengers). Passenger traffic at Kutaisi International Airport increased 45% in December 2019 to 82,551 passengers (57,088 passengers in December 2018). As for the 12 months data, in total Kutaisi International Airport served 873,907 passengers in 2019, which is 42% more than the same period of the previous year. (2018 - 617,342).
In 2019, despite the airline crashes, the upward trend was maintained at Batumi International Airport. In December 2019, 26,239 passengers took advantage of Batumi Alexander the Great Airport. That is 42% more than the same period last year (December 18,492 passengers). As for the annual sum, the number of passengers at Batumi International Airport in 2019 increased by 4% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 624,178 passengers. (2018 year 598,862 passengers).
As for the local airports, Mestia and Ambrolauri airports had 10,132 passengers in 2019. Which is 23% higher than last year. (2018 - 8,264 passengers).
Mestia Airport served 595 passengers in December, up 97% compared to the same period last year (December 302, 2018). In the 12-month period, passenger fare increased by 23%. (2018 - 6,741 passengers).
Ambrolauri Airport served 67 passengers in December, up 179% over the same period last year. (December 2018 - 24 passengers). As for the 12-month peak, Ambrolauri Airport in 2019, like Mestia Airport, has grown by 23% to serve 1,866 passengers. (2018 - 1,523 passengers), "the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia said in a statement.
