Shalva Papuashvili: We have an opposition that has lost its sovereignty, and therefore they have not defined their own agenda

We have an opposition that has lost its sovereignty, and therefore, they have not defined their own agenda - they are looking beyond where their patrons are, - said the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili, thus responding to the initiative of the majority to submit a constitutional project to the Parliament on the attitude of the opposition against pseudo-liberal propaganda.

According to him, the opposition has lost its sovereignty, and according to Papuashvili's assessment, therefore, they have not defined their own agenda, so they cannot talk about this issue.

"Actually, what we are observing is an opposition that has lost its sovereignty. It is the opposition that sets its agenda, looks behind its back and looks away from where the patrons are standing. We have an opposition that has lost its sovereignty, and therefore, they have not defined their own agenda. That's why they can't talk about it. They know what response they will get from Georgian society if they are identified as supporters of propaganda and they know what response they will get from their patrons if they go against propaganda. They are stuck to some extent and their silence is due to this," said Papuashvili.

The chairman of the parliament calls on the opposition to get involved in the activities of the commission and listen to the voice of the Georgian people.

"I asked them where they are going to go to the elections in October, are they waiting for the elections of the Georgian people or are they waiting for a mandate from their patrons?" It should be the choice of the Georgian people, in the end, to listen to what the Georgian people want and to act as the Georgian people want. I called them and I hope they will join this commission," Papuashvili said.

According to him, in order for it to enter into force immediately, the change in the constitution needs ¾, and in the conditions of the parliament of two convocations, it needs 2/3, and here exactly the votes of the opposition are needed.

"Georgian people will watch very carefully and see which button they will press when the vote is held. They have a difficult choice, they have to choose between the Georgian people and their foreign patrons; They have this choice and let's see what choice they will make. Whatever choice they will make regarding this law, the Georgian people will make a choice regarding them," said Shalva Papuashvili.
