18.03.24 16:14

The decision of the Bucharest summit implies that Georgia will become a member state of the NATO alliance, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a joint briefing with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in the government administration.

In addition, as the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance noted, Georgia should implement and continue reforms in the direction of the rule of law, including free and open parliamentary elections.

"Several days ago, the Turkish military brigade visited Batumi and met with its Georgian partners. This is one example of how we cooperate in the region, share opportunities and strengthen potential. This proves how important Georgia is for NATO. This direction continues to ensure stronger and more democratic directions for integration, including the decision of Bucharest that Georgia will become a member state of the NATO alliance.

The candidate status granted to Georgia by the European Council will strengthen the prosperity aspirations and spirit in this direction in the country. We will walk hand in hand in the direction of NATO. It is important to note that Georgia should implement and continue local reforms in the direction of the rule of law, including free and open parliamentary elections. Mr. Prime Minister, I thank you once again for your hospitality and personal commitment to the NATO-Georgia partnership," Stoltenberg said.

For information, during March 17-19, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is visiting Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.
