UN High Commissioner for Human Rights - Statements about displacement of civilians from Gaza to other countries are very disturbing

05.01.24 12:00

Statements about the resettlement of civilians from Gaza to other countries are very disturbing, - said the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk.

"The statements of the Israeli high-ranking officials about the plans to transfer civilians from Gaza to third countries are very disturbing. 85% of Gaza residents are already internally displaced. They have the right to return to their homes," wrote Volker Turk on Twitter.

Volker Turk noted that international law prohibits the transfer of protected persons to the borders of the occupied territories or deportation outside them.

Let us remind you that last week, the Minister of Finance of Israel, Bezalel Smotrich, and the Minister of National Security of Israel, Itamar Ben-Gvir, called on the Palestinian population of Gaza to leave the Gaza Strip.
