Georgia and Ukraine are no longer working in the CIS format, and Moldova has practically lost its identity, but this is their choice, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the CIS summit.

"Some countries that used to be part of the CIS and may still be part of it today do not work in this format any longer, but it is their choice. Everything started with Georgia, after the failed attempt of the former president of Georgia to solve internal problems by force and attacks on South Ossetia, and also with the consequences that arose as a result of this provocation," Putin said.

According to him, Ukraine once signed the fundamental document on the CIS, but never joined it in its full format. As for Moldova, the country is losing its identity, but this is its choice.

"A country like Moldova is practically losing its identity. The elite of this country - they generally believe that they are not Moldovans, they call themselves Romanians, but this is their choice", said the President of Russia.

According to him, the complete loss of the country's identity "is the choice of the current leadership of Moldova".
