It is said that if Mikheil Saakashvili is not released, the country will not receive the status. If you want, I can tell you my attitude - we don't want such a status at all, they can keep it, if it is a prerequisite, let them keep it for themselves! - this is how the Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze addressed the representatives of the opposition during his speech at the session of the City Council.
According to Kaladze, there is no person in the country "who could spoil more for the Georgian people, for the population of our country, than the National Movement with its politics and creativity".
"We have a Constitution, we have laws, which we, the citizens of this country, must respect first of all. When the equal sign is put regarding Mikheil Saakashvili's release or non-release, and it is said that if Mikheil Saakashvili is not released, the country will not receive the status. If you want, I can tell you my attitude - we don't want such a status at all, they can keep it, if it is a prerequisite, let them keep it for themselves. As for the country, the government - we took responsibility for the fulfillment of 12 points. Then, what was needed to present and commit to these 12 points in order for all of this to be fulfilled. Accordingly, we will, of course, do what we have to do and everything will be done to make Georgia a member of the big family called Europe and European integration. We have done a lot and everything has been done since 2012," Kaladze said.
The Mayor also noted that "no one is happy to arrest anyone, we are not happy to lock anyone in jail, but the law must be enforced and the crime must be answered".
