Ilia Darchiashvili: In 2022, the country proved that its state institutions are able to effectively deal with challenges, which shows that this is a sustainable and successful state

In 2022, the country proved that its state institutions are able to effectively deal with challenges, which shows that this is a sustainable and successful state, said Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili during his speech at the "Ambassadors' Conference."

According to him, in 2022, Georgian diplomacy showed incredibly high professionalism.

"This year's "Ambassadors' Conference" has a special significance, due to the scale of events unfolding in the global world, of which we are a part. As you know, we have never lacked foreign political threats and challenges, but without exaggeration, we must say that the past year has been the most difficult and tense in this regard. In 2022, the world faced a fundamentally new reality. Based on the above, perhaps it is appropriate to ask ourselves the question of how much we were able to adapt to the radically changed environment from the perspective of the past year, so as to further activate our pursuit of foreign priorities. I would like to emphasize that even in such conditions, Georgian diplomacy showed incredibly high professionalism. It is especially noteworthy that the coordinated actions between different branches of the government and state agencies, as well as the consistent foreign policy steps of the governing team, the parliamentary and executive authorities, played a major role in this success. I would especially highlight the role of the Prime Minister, under whose leadership the government team was able to successfully deal with external threats in accordance with the country's interests under these difficult conditions. In other words, in 2022, the country has proven that its state institutions are able to effectively deal with challenges, which shows that this is a sustainable and successful state. The role of the Prime Minister and his team is visible in another direction - the fact is that today, when extremely negative developments have put many countries, including strong, successful and developed countries, in a difficult situation, and some of them now have to fight with the economic and energy crisis, Georgia has not only maintained stability, but continues to develop at a rapid pace. In addition, Georgia maintained stability under the conditions of occupation and despite the difficult foreign political context achieved tangible results in the priority directions of foreign policy, where it is worth noting the unwavering and strong support of our strategic partners.

I'm sure you'll all agree that this would be a more difficult task to do given the global environment. With consistent policy, development of democratic institutions, continuity of reforms, our government has created an important foundation for the success of the country's national goals in the path of integration into the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic space. In this regard, in 2022, full of challenges, an unprecedented event of historical importance took place, when the European Council granted Georgia a European perspective.

In the conditions when the consolidation of the country has become our main priority - in order to achieve this goal, we will continue to implement a consistent peace policy, which implies, on the one hand, efforts to consolidate international support to ensure the de-occupation of the country through the state's peaceful policy and, at the same time, to restore the reconciliation and involvement of the society divided by the occupation line.

Of course, each of us is deeply affected by the tragedy that befell our fellow Ukrainian people. Since the beginning of the war, we have unequivocally joined statements and resolutions in support of Ukraine in all international formats, and we will continue to provide active humanitarian aid. Also, our support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine is firm and unwavering," the Minister said.
