As you know, Armenian nationalists have recently been conventionally divided into two camps: those who can be conventionally called "pro-Russian" and those who are pro-Western. In principle, they may disagree about who should be Yerevan's ally in building a "great Armenia". However, they are currently united on two issues:
1. Hatred of Turkey, Turkophobia and Azerbaijanophobia, and Georgianophobia closely connected to them.
2. Overt joy or schadenfreude (overt or covert) over the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the war on Ukrainian territory.
There is no secret that it was the Armenian lobby that fuelled the war and brought it as close as it could. Both pro-Russian and pro-Western Armenian nationalist camps did their best.
Moscow Armenian nationalists such as Simonyans, Gabriyanovs and Bagdasarovs cried out about "Ukrainian Nazis" and "terrible Banderaites". In Moscow, the representatives of the same "ancient people", the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov-Kalontarov and the main Kremlin propagandist Margarita Simonyan, pushed the situation towards war with Ukraine the most. And in the end they succeeded - the war broke out.
The Armenian nationalists are not at all concerned about the sacrifice and suffering of the Ukrainian people. What matters to them is something else: there is an attempt to legalise the territorial claims of one country to another by armed force. It is no coincidence that most of the Armenian media and information resources were enthusiastic about the recognition of the so-called "independence" of the separatist DNR and LNR in eastern Ukraine and the start of Russia's war for the separatists. It is clear why, by analogy, they hope that in the same way the so-called "Artsakh" in Azerbaijani lands will be recognised and the territories for Armenians will be conquered by the same Russia.
For instance, here are excerpts from a characteristic article by the "pro-Western" Armenian nationalist publication Armenianreport 'Prosperity of Armenia's recognition of the LNR and DPR'( https://www.armenianreport.com/ru/pubs/308450/ ):
"With the recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, the Armenian authorities will have another argument in resolving the issue of the Artsakh people's right to self-determination.
Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the progress of the special operation in Ukraine at an operational meeting with the members of the Security Council. He noted that the Luhansk and Donetsk regions will be returned to the LDPR on the 2014 borders, but we need time for this. It is now working for him..... Russia's victory is close at hand.
It's only a short time before Kharkov, and then Odessa, and also Kiev, are taken. And it will be a bright victory for Putin over the US and NATO.
The very NATO to which we are not members and to which we have never aspired. The same NATO, a member of which, now I mean Turkey, fought against Armenia and "Artsakh" The conclusions from all of this are inescapable. The most obvious conclusions can be drawn from all this. Especially taking into account Turkey's position on Ukraine. It is, to put it mildly, not friendly.
Turkey supports Crimean Tatars and does not recognise the annexation of Crimea... Ukraine shoots down Russian tanks with Turkish Bayraktars. In addition, Turkey has sent humanitarian aid to Ukraine. It is time for Russia to show that it has had enough of Ankara's antics. How can Russia show it - the whole world in Ukraine sees it.
And Armenia, as well as Artsakh, are ready to lead a holy campaign against Turkey and Azerbaijan. But first, the Armenian authorities need to voice their assessment of what has happened by recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics. We cannot wiggle, we have to be straightforward. As Putin advised Naryshkin.
With the recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, the Armenian authorities will have another argument in resolving the issue of the right of the people of "Artsakh" to self-determination. In general, they should declare their willingness to send Armenian troops to assist Russia in its special operations. That will be highly appreciated by Putin. And it will be right in every sense of the word.
After all, Russia actually prevented another "genocide" in the history of mankind, which the Armenian people experienced with the famous tragic events of 1915, and in the late XX century - with bloody massacres in Sumgait and Baku. It also prevented the "genocide" in Stepanakert that Azerbaijan and Turkey were going to stage. This must be remembered and appreciated.
It is worth noting that this is written by the same armenianreport, which not too long ago was terribly Russophobic, cursed Putin with the last words and admired NATO. But when an opportunity arises to redraw the borders with the help of Russia and Putin, pro-Western Armenian nationalists immediately reconsider their sympathies and antipathies. Once again they hope that Russia will go to war with Turkey and Azerbaijan over "Greater Armenia".
