The Riga Ministerial gives me reason to say that the NATO Summit 2022 will be fruitful in the context of an open door policy, - said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Davit Zalkaliani.
According to him, the ministerial held in Riga was very meaningful and result-oriented, during which the issues of Black Sea security and the significant contribution of Georgia and Ukraine in this direction were discussed.
According to Zalkaliani, the sides discussed the ministerial summit to be held in 2022 in Madrid and the updated strategic concept for 2030, which will be approved at the Madrid summit.
"Many countries today talked about the need to invite Georgia and Ukraine to the Madrid summit. In addition, the fact that we are already involved in the development of a new NATO strategy indicates that our participation in next year's Madrid Summit is extremely important and that the new strategy will be an important emphasis on the continuation of NATO's open door policy," - Davit Zalkaliani noted.
According to the Foreign Minister, the importance of Georgia as an aspirant country was underlined at the Ministerial, and for the first time in the last few years, the NATO assessment document was presented to the aspirant countries, where Georgia has highly positive assessments in terms of NATO integration. According to him, the adoption of this document confirms that Georgia is on the right path in terms of NATO integration and all the practical tools that Georgia has are being successfully implemented.
At the same time, Zalkaliani noted that the proposals that Georgia will present to NATO partners, visions of how our country sees the forthcoming action plan for NATO membership and the steps that should be taken by Georgia were discussed within the framework of the ministerial. According to him, the conversation also touched upon the steps that Georgia expects from its NATO partners.
"There have been highly positive assessments, and naturally today's discussion gives me reason to say that NATO's 2022 Madrid Summit will be fruitful in the context of an open door policy, and in terms of the progress the country is making on its path to NATO integration," Zalkaliani said.
