President of NATO Parliamentary Assembly visits Georgia: ‘cooperation with Georgia is of top importance’

President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Madeleine Moon, who is on official visit to Georgia, says that cooperation with Georgia is of high importance for the assembly she chairs.

 

She vowed to broadly speak about Georgia’s progress towards NATO during the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in October.

 

Moon said that being a democratic country is a continuous process and any state which strives for high standards and democracy should never stop advancement and the respect of democratic institutions.

 

She said that Russian propaganda is a real threat and not only in Georgia, but also in many other countries.

 

The government can do much against propaganda. However, each citizen should also do their job against it,” Moon stated after her meeting with Georgian Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze.

 

Moon stated that NATO’s position towards Georgia “has always been very clear.”

 

We recognise Georgia’s territorial integrity and support the country’s intention to reintegrate its [Russian- occupied] territories,” Moon stated.

 

Talakvadze said that the country’s integration into NATO and the EU is a choice of the Georgian people and the key goal of the current Georgian Dream leadership.

 

We have taken genuine steps for this and we will continue doing our utmost to achieve these final goals,” Talakvadze said.
He stated that Moon’s visit to Georgia reaffirms that the country is high on the NATO agenda.
