As a result of the investigative and procedural actions, the Special Investigation Service revealed the facts of ill-treatment and violence, after which criminal prosecution was launched against 4 law enforcement officers in October and November of this year, The Special Investigation Service reports.
"The Senior Escort officer of the Main Division of Escort and Special Events of the Penitentiary Department of the Special Penitentiary Service, D.D. was exposed for the crime. He improperly performed his duties on August 20, 2022, at the "Mental Health and Drug Addiction Prevention Center" LLC, where prisoners with mental health problems were housed. He could not ensure the safe transfer of his shift and the prisoners left without constant supervision. As a result, prisoner G.S. sneaked up on one of the security group members, who was also moving around in violation of the standard of prudence with a service-staff weapon and took out his service firearm from a special holster stored in the trouser belt. He fired three shots with the mentioned firearm. With one of the shots, he inflicted a headshot wound, resulting in his death. For the above-mentioned case, the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia charged the officer (head of the group) of the Special Penitentiary Service with indifference according to Article 342, Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The Inspector of the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), G.L. was exposed to the crime of disclosure of information on the private life of a woman who was in a relationship with him. in March 2022, G.L. was angry about breaking up with a female friend and for revenge sent an intimate content photo of the half-naked woman to the woman's husband through the social network "Messenger", and wrote him that his wife was cheating. Shortly, after the victim woman applied to the Special Investigation Service, as a result of operational and investigative actions, the Inspector of the Special Tasks Department of MIA was arrested by Article 157 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The military police officer of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia (MoD) in presence of their minor children, Z.M. verbally and physically assaulted his wife on November 17, 2022, and he was found guilty of this crime. As a result of the violence, the victim suffered severe physical pain and body damage. Shortly, after the victim woman applied to the Special Investigation Service, as a result of operational and investigative actions, a military police officer was arrested for the crime by Article 126', Article 11' and 151, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
As a result of the investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Service, the Inspector of the Main Division of External Protection and Information-Technical Security of the Penitentiary Department of the Special Penitentiary Service is exposed for ill-treatment. The Senior Inspector of the above-mentioned Service, who was in charge of organizing and controlling the proper performance of the duties of the soldiers in compulsory military service, exceeded his authority and physically assaulted 4 conscripts for violating discipline in Batumi city, in the penitentiary institution No. 3 of the Penitentiary Department of the Special Penitentiary Service. The mentioned actions took place in November 2022, in different periods. After obtaining evidence incriminating the crime, the Special Investigation Service used the mandate provided by Article 19 of the Law of Georgia "On Special Investigation Service" and addressed the Prosecutor General with written proposals for the request to initiate criminal prosecution. After that, the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia launched criminal prosecution against the inspector who was exposed to crime by Article 333, paragraph 3, subparagraph "b" of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The Special Investigation Service continues to investigate the above-mentioned cases. As a result of the investigation of the ill-treatment and violent crimes committed by law enforcement officers, the Special Investigation Service, since its creation, launched criminal prosecutions against 23 law enforcement officers," reads the statement.
