Irakli Gharibashvili: Let’s stop speculating about the dates - former president Saakashvili and his uncalculated provocative steps led to the fact that the tragic war could not be avoided

It's a pity that we have to talk about dates. We are all gathered in order to pay tribute to the heroes, we should stop talking and speculating about the dates, Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili said when asked: "Why is the ruling team going to the Mukhatgverdi cemetery on August 8?"

According to Gharibashvili, it is embarrassing to talk about the date of the beginning of the war, especially since the representatives of the previous Government also used to go to the Mukhatgverdi cemetery on August 8.

"I would like to remind you all that the date August 8 has never been a topic of discussion. Representatives of the former authorities also used to come here on August 8. It's embarrassing that here are the family members of our hero military and we are talking about dates.

I will tell you the main thing - the foolish policy of the de-facto owner of your television stations, former president Saakashvili, and his uncalculated provocative steps led to the fact that this tragic war could not be avoided. It was a treason of Saakashvili and his team. They sacrificed our country and people, our military.

When they come out today and pretend to be patriots, I would like to remind them that several months after the August war, in 2009, Saakashvili started handing over strategic objects to Russian state organizations. Then we were told that Russian money had no smell - that's one thing; Second - Saakashvili's Government canceled the visa-free regime for Russian citizens. Third - Saakashvili's Government did not take any action after the war to impose sanctions on Russia for the occupation, instead, they canceled the visa-free regime for Russian citizens, handed over strategic facilities to Russian companies, and then supported Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization", said the Prime Minister.
