Mikheil Sarjveladze: I don't think that today Mikheil Saakashvili's reputation in Georgian politics is of such a scale that his retirement from politics may make any changes

I don't think that today Mikheil Saakashvili's reputation, his authority or weight in Georgian politics are of such a scale that his retirement from politics may make any changes and have a significant impact on politics - this is not of essential importance for us, Georgian Dream MP Mikheil Sarjveladze told journalists.

 

Sarjveladze appealed to the media not to create wrong expectations when talking about Mikheil Saakashvili's factor in Georgian politics.

 

"He is not of such a scale or size to be able to make a big impact – either he stays in or leaves politics, this does not qualitatively change the Georgian politics. As for what he can affect, he will certainly have a big impact on the reputation of the National Movement,” Sardjveladze said.

 

According to him, it is wrong to relate the issue of Saakashvili's retirement from Georgian politics to the enforcement of his sentence.

 

"Issues related to the enforcement of the sentence, including the treatment of the prisoner and the realization of his rights, are not related to staying in or leaving politics. It is categorically impossible to link these two things and use it for bargaining", said Mikheil Sarjveladze.
