Georgia was a leading country, and now we see many negatives that affect the future development of the country, said MEP Miriam Lexmaxn during the discussion of the annual report of the EU Association Agreement with Georgia in the European Parliament.

According to the European parliamentarian, the oligarch in Georgia continues to have excessive influence on the political landscape.

"Georgia was a leading country, and now we see many negatives that affect the future development of the country. Once it was advanced, but now Georgia, unlike Moldova and Ukraine, did not receive the candidate status.

There are certain reasons for this, and these reasons should be clearly indicated in the report, because it will be for the benefit of the future of the country. I am listing the issues that we believe need to be resolved: in Georgia, not only is the political space divided, but so is the society. The ruling party continues to ignore the April 19 agreement. One oligarch continues to have excessive influence on the political landscape, and necessary reforms of the judicial system are delayed. We also saw attacks on journalists and we see political prisoners, including the former President of the country and the director of the television. I think these are the events that we should point out, because we see the European aspirations of the population of Georgia, and we should stand by them," said Lexmann.
