President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili spoke about Georgia’s occupied territories at the conference of the International Labor Organization and noted that achievements, progress and new rights are unfortunately not available in the occupied territories and the whole population of the country, InterPressNews has been informed by the President's Administration.
"20% of Georgian territory is occupied by Russia. There is a difficult security, human rights and humanitarian situation there and the labor rights are not an exception. Arrangement of military infrastructures is still underway near so-called border checkpoints. The facts of illegal detentions and abductions are frequent around the occupation line. Human rights are intensively violated by on ethnic grounds, they are deprived of the most important thing - the right to life. Their right to education is also restricted, including in Georgian, Abkhazian and Ossetian languages.
And it takes place through the active policy of the Russification," said Salome Zurabishvili.
According to the President, international monitoring of the current situation is impossible and the EU Monitoring Mission, which has a full mandate to operate in Georgia, has no right to move to the occupied regions.
"For de-occupation Georgia needs a firm support from the international community and partners", the President noted.
