The trial of Nika Melia, the chairman of the United National Movement, is underway in the Tbilisi City Court.
The measure of restraint imposed on Nika Melia will be discussed in the Tbilisi City Court today. The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia appealed to the court yesterday regarding the change of the measure of restraint imposed on Melia.
Defendant Nika Melia himself will not attend the hearing because he was expelled from the courtroom during the previous trial for disrespect for the court.
Nika Melia's bail - 40 000 GEL was paid by the European Union on May 8. The funds were made available by European Endowment for Democracy and handed over to the authorities by the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association.
For information, the chairman of the United National Movement, Nika Melia, was sentenced to imprisonment on February 17 as a measure of restraint. The decision was upheld by the Tbilisi City Court on April 13.
