NCDC: 17 % of COVID-19 patients were asymptomatic at the time of PCR testing

In almost 17% of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease was asymptomatic at the time of testing. This is stated in the analysis of the National Center for Disease Control and Public.

 

The study covers the period from the first confirmed case – from 16 February to 11 May.

 

The authors of the document explain that asymptomatic means when a laboratory-confirmed case does not show any symptoms. These 83 cases were asymptomatic on the day of PCR testing, although with the course of the disease, some symptoms may later appear.

 

The report also states that as of May 11, there are 16.9 infected people per 100,000 populations.

 

COVID-19 new cases per 100,000 populations, according to the place of exposure, are highest in the Kvemo Kartli region, lowest in Shida Kartli and Imereti. The regions of Tbilisi, Adjara, and Racha-Lechkhumi occupy an intermediate position.

 

As for the representatives of the healthcare sector, according to the document, the frequency of infection in the world, according to various sources, ranges from 5% to 20%.

 

In Georgia, 13% of confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported among the representatives of the healthcare sector.

 

The report of the Centers for Disease Control also shows the frequency distribution of coronavirus symptoms. According to the document, the most common are fever (82.4%), weakness (49.6%), cough (38.3%), sore throat (25.9%), and headache (22.5%).
