Minister of Health makes explanations regarding Government’s assistance to Ukrainian refugees, saying politicization of this topic is inappropriate

01.08.22 17:00

The Government decided to assist Ukrainian refugees and those, who are not accommodated in the hotel, with 300 GEL each family and 45 GEL each person, upon request, the Minister of Health of Georgia, Zurab Azarashvili, said after the end of the governmental meeting.

He also explained why the Government has defined the above amount for Ukrainian refugees. Azarashvili noted that all speculations and politicization in this regard are inappropriate.

"As you know, a government decree was issued in July, and since March, for Ukrainian refugees accommodated in various hotels and for those who are not accommodated in hotels, the Government made a decision to help each family with 300 GEL and each person, if they need it, with 45 GEL, upon request. I would like to briefly explain how we defined these amounts. As you know, Ukrainian refugees are present in different countries and we have seen the practices and examples of all these countries. It is also important that we have about 300,000 displaced compatriots in the country. We wanted this amount to be close to their aid package. Therefore, all speculations and politicization of this topic are inappropriate, and I call on those politicians who act like they are more concerned about this problem than we are, to stop provocations.

For information, the leader of the Droa party, Elenia Khoshtaria, called on the society to help the Ukrainian families who are left homeless.

As she said at today's briefing, the aid program for Ukrainians in Georgia has ended.
