Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili today has met with his Turkish colleague Mevlut Cavusoglu in Istanbul.

The parties “positively assessed” the activation of high-level relations between Georgia and Turkey, the Georgian Foreign Ministry (MFA) reported.

The dignitaries paid special attention to the priority areas of cooperation such as trade and economy, and their great potential for further development.

Ilia Darchiashvili thanked his Mevlut Cavusoglu for Turkey’s strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Alluding to the ongoing processes in the region, Georgia’s important role in the process of ensuring stability and sustainable development in the South Caucasus was noted, the MFA said.

“Turkish FM welcomed the first meeting held in Tbilisi between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Armenia and expressed hope that Georgia will play a positive role in this regard and ensure peace in the region.

The FMs saluted the relations of the two countries in multilateral formats and stressed the trilateral format of Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey and various directions of cooperation within its framework,” the MFA added.
