Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia held a working meeting with the representatives of the associations working in the field of tourism and civil aviation.
Mariam Kvrivishvili introduced them to the dynamics of tourism development in Georgia and the tendencies to restore civil aviation.
"According to the data of the aviation and tourism sector for the last 8 months, the dynamics of very fast and positive recovery of aviation has been identified, which is also recognized by the international organization. In August, Eurocontrol named Georgia the second country with the fastest recovery dynamics in terms of aviation, and with these results we are ahead of countries such as Greece, Spain, Turkey, etc.
The dynamics of aviation enhancement are naturally reflected directly in the numbers. We are pleased to report that August data restored 98 percent of the number of partner airlines in our aviation industry operating in 2019. More than 90 percent of the direct destinations where we operate from all three international airports have been restored. Most importantly, the strengthening of aviation has contributed to the rapid recovery of passenger traffic. All this is reflected in the strengthening of the tourism sector. Due to the pandemic, we have to work in different ways. This means that given the pandemic our two neighboring countries (Russia and Azerbaijan) are still closed due to internal regulations. They have made quite a large contribution to the development of the tourism sector over the years and hence the aviation sector is in fact an advanced sector that strengthens the tourism industry. Despite the Covid pandemic, our country was able to and did host more than a million international travelers in the first 8 months. I am glad that we have very good dynamics in terms of tourism development and we are ahead of the 2019 data by 18 percent. In terms of revenues, more than 505 million GEL has been received from tourism in the first 8 months, and most importantly, this positive dynamics will be reflected in the strengthening of the private sector, "- said Mariam Kvrivishvili.
